Java SE8 Silver ~ The Road to Pass ~

The other day, I took the Java SE8 Silver exam and was able to pass it brilliantly. The pass line for Java SE8 Silver was 65%, and I was able to get 81% on the day.

In this article, for those who are thinking of taking the Java SE8 Silver exam, I would like to describe the study time, study method, reference books used, examination procedures, etc.

0.Agenda

  1. Author's specifications
  2. Reference book used
  3. Required study time / study method
  4. Exam procedure
  5. Flow of the day
  6. Finally

1. Author's specifications

I was a 22-year-old liberal arts graduate of a four-year university (I turned 23 the other day), and until this spring when I became a member of society, I had almost no knowledge of computers, let alone programs. In such a state, I joined a company mainly responsible for system development from April, and immediately after that, I went to training for 3 months. In that training, I mainly learned Java, SQL, HTML, JavaScript, JSP, Servlet, and at the end of the training, I was able to create a simple inventory management web application. After that, I went back to the company and repeated the work of newcomers (mainly testing), and did a little bit of fixing bugs in Java. So I didn't have the experience of making something in Java, so I started from 0.

2. Reference book used

Only one reference book was used to obtain this qualification.

["Thorough capture Java SE 8 Silver problem collection [1Z0-808] correspondence / Sumito Shiga (author)"](https://www.amazon.co.jp/%E5%BE%B9%E5%BA%95 % E6% 94% BB% E7% 95% A5-Java-Silver-% E5% 95% 8F% E9% A1% 8C% E9% 9B% 86-1Z0-808 / dp / 4844339931 / ref = sr_1_1? Ie = UTF8 & qid = 15545644894 & sr = 8-1 & keywords = Java + Se8% E3% 80% 80Silver)

Not limited to Java, Oracle vendor qualifications have extremely high exam fees (described later), so I don't want to spend too much money on reference books. So, I think that it will be a study method to read one Java introductory book, get a feeling that "Fun Java is like this", and then pursue deep knowledge with this problem collection.

By the way, here is the book I used to learn the appearance of Java.

["Easy Java / Mana Takahashi (Author)"](https://www.amazon.co.jp/%E3%82%84%E3%81%95%E3%81%97%E3%81%84Java- % E7% AC% AC6% E7% 89% 88-% E3% 80% 8C% E3% 82% 84% E3% 81% 95% E3% 81% 97% E3% 81% 84% E3% 80% 8D% E3% 82% B7% E3% 83% AA% E3% 83% BC% E3% 82% BA-% E9% AB% 98% E6% A9% 8B-% E9% BA% BB% E5% A5% 88 / dp / 4797388269 / ref = sr_1_1? ie = UTF8 & qid = 15545645227 & sr = 8-1 & keywords =% E3% 82% 84% E3% 81% 95% E3% 81% 97% E3% 81% 84 Java)

It is easy for beginners without writing too much knowledge. There is a lot of sample code, so if you want to learn Java from scratch, read this book while understanding the contents. We recommend the study method of moving the sample code.

3. Required study time / study method

As mentioned above, I am a member of society and it was difficult to secure study time. Rather than securing it, I had to start spending time in the day. At the training stage, I was wondering if I could secure enough time to study even if I became a member of society. When I actually see my work for the first time, I don't have much time ...

Most of the readers who are thinking of taking the exam are working adults, I think there are many people who say, "I don't have time to study!"

However, as one Fullmetal Alchemist says, you have to sacrifice something to get something.

What I sacrificed there was commuting time, arriving at the office one hour before the start of work, or one day on Saturday or Sunday. I had about 2 hours to commute to and from work, so I spent about 3 hours on the train and at work on weekdays and about 8 hours on Saturdays and Sundays for a month. (About 100 hours in total)

I practiced the following two ways of studying.

First of all, read the above reference book "Easy Java" repeatedly until you think it is "perfect". The second is to repeat the problem collection many times.

It's easy, but it's the most efficient way to study. Especially, it is very important to repeat the second problem collection.

About 8 to 10 laps of the problem collection, I will solve it while making a note of the wrong problem number. There are 11 chapters in total, but every time I solve one chapter, I make a note of the wrong problem. If you make a mistake, read the explanation, and if there is sample code, actually write the code and move it. Let's see how the program works. Then, after solving chapters 1 to 11, we will solve only the wrong problem again. The problem I made a mistake here is the part I'm not good at, so I'll go back to "Easy Java" and read the part about the mistake again. Then solve the wrong problem again. If you make a mistake, repeat the process in a loop. If this eliminates the problem of making a mistake, it is considered that one lap is completed. And I will solve chapters 1 to 11 again. I will repeat this many times.

The first one or two laps will take a lot of time, but from the third lap, the speed per lap will increase at an accelerating rate.

Of the problem collections introduced above, the most important are Chapters 10 and 11. The problems in Chapters 10 and 11 that have changed variable names and numbers will appear in production as they are, so please focus on this area.

4. Exam procedure

Regarding the examination procedure, the article here is very detailed and easy to understand, so please refer to it.

"I took the Java Silver exam, but the procedure was really troublesome"

Also, as stated in the here article, you must complete the procedure at least one week before the exam. Is recommended.

After creating a Pearson Vue account, you need to create an Oracle account to log in to CertView in order to check the test results, and it seems that you need to link with the Pearson Vue account.

It seems that one week has passed since the Pearson Vue account was created in order for the Pearson Vue and Oracle accounts to work together. Without knowing that, I took the exam one week before and tried to link my accounts to see the results. The authentication failed brilliantly, and I ended up sending an email to the secretariat.

Therefore, it is recommended that you apply for the test at least one week before the scheduled test date and link your accounts.

5. Flow of the day

On the day of the test, you will take the test at the reserved test site. As stated in the email you received when you applied for the test, you will need to take various procedures such as taking a photo and verifying your identity on the day of the test at least 15 minutes before the start of the test. However, even if you arrive at the venue more than 15 minutes before, if there are no examinees in front of you, you can take the exam earlier than the reserved time, so you should arrive at the exam venue 30 minutes before the day. I think it's okay to allocate enough time.

The test will be conducted in a separate room with a computer. When you enter the room, you will be given a whiteboard instead of a memo, and you will write notes on it. The question will be displayed on the computer screen and you will enter the answer on the computer. In addition, headphones instead of earplugs are placed in the room, so you can take the test without worrying about ambient noise.

When the test is over, each person will leave the room, and if the Pearson Vue and Oracle accounts are linked, it seems that an email will be sent about 30 minutes after the test ends, saying "You can see the results." On the other hand, please note that if you do not properly link your Pearson Vue and Oracle accounts like the author, you will not receive the email.

6. Finally

Even the liberal arts writer was able to pass the exam after studying for about 100 hours, so I don't think it's a level exam that beginners can't afford. If you follow the learning method introduced properly, anyone can pass the exam, so if you are thinking of taking the exam, please do your best. By the way, the examination fee is about 26,000 yen, so if you do not pass it in one shot, it will be difficult (mainly financially).

I will be next year

-Java SE8 Gold -OracleMaster Silver -Applied Information Technology Examination

I'm going to get it, so let's do our best together in each field.

See you again.
