In the previous article, I tried how to download a file using Scrapy. This time, I will show you how to pass arguments to Spider from the command line.

Creating a Spider

This time, we will create a Spider to get the contents of the category page of Qiita's Advent calendar. Within Spider, it receives the target category as a command line argument, dynamically generates the target URL, and downloads the content of the page.

How to pass arguments

You can pass arguments to commands that come with Scrapy using the -a option.

-a categories=programming_languages

If you want to pass multiple arguments, write as follows.

-a offset=0 -a limit=100

Command execution

scrapy crawl qiita_spider -a categories=programming_languages -o categories.json

When you run the command, the log will be displayed on the console. As explained last time, the log shows information such as the URL being retrieved, status, number of bytes, and summary.
